This model simulates a colony of ants foraging for food. The ants leave a trail of pheromones as they move. The pheromones evaporate over time, so the ants can follow the strongest scent to find food. The ants will also deposit pheromones to mark the location of the nest. The nest will create a new ant once it has accumulated enough food.

How to Use

Click on the grid to add food sources. The ants will forage for food and bring it back to the nest.

Adjust the parameters to see how the ants behave. The three most impactful parameters are:

• Pheromone Diffusion Range: How far the pheromones will spread.
• Pheromone Evaporation Rate: How quickly the pheromones will evaporate.
• Pheromone Deposit Rate: How much pheromone the ants will deposit.
